New laptop, WA driver licensing, Star Wars III

News ·Thursday May 19, 2005 @ 21:25 EDT (link)

20050513: Took my Washington driver license test (knowledge test only since I had my MA license; 25 multiple choice questions, required to get 20 right to pass). I took it at the Bellevue office during the afternoon; total time there was probably about an hour and a half; questions were fairly typical; they had the usual ticket queues, and issued a B&W temporary license immediately with the real thing to arrive in the mail. Total cost $35 ($10 to take the test, $25 for the license).

20050514: Bought a laptop (an Acer TravelMate, from Hard Drives Northwest, not as heavy as my Vaio, nice unit, Intel Centrino, not a Celeron). Honey took her driver test; like me, only missed two. Set up my local wireless network again (hadn't bothered so far, no clients).

20050517: Hyperlinks today. Some rearchitecting and refactoring of repeated code into the object model hyperlink struct, which is now a class.

Honey's car failed emissions test - re-test free after fixing (automatic pass if we spent $150+; seems it's going to cost about $450, which isn't all that great after paying $300 for replacing my wiper motor, although we may be able to claim all or part of that from the movers).

20050519: Went to see Star Wars III with Office this morning; jolly good flick.

Trying to get Shapes.AddPicture working again; did a small code review; went through and fixed some of my REVIEW comments (and added some new ones). Making progress slowly but surely.

Went to eat with Honey and Lisa at the Pancake House, but Lisa wasn't feeling well so we just ate our salads there and took the rest to go.

Now with sidebars!
20050714: Added this sidebar feature (<t:rant ...>). If you just want to read about my so-called life (remember, I originally wrote this just so I could keep track of dates and events for myself), you can skip the ranting in the sidebars. If you just want to read my rants, go ahead and do that too. If you want to read both, God help you, but you may do that too.
